Think back to your school experiences. What do you remember? Is it the specific lessons? The test you took? Or is it the experiences you had outside the classroom? The trip you went on? The club you were a part of, or scoring the winning shot in the game? At UA, we call that Student Life.
Student life is the shared experiences, the friendships formed, and the moments that become lasting memories. In our recent student survey, when we asked students to share their meaningful learning experiences, the vast majority of responses were student life-related. Through athletics, extracurricular activities, trips, and student-led initiatives, they shared countless experiences of discovering new interests, developing important skills, and stepping outside their comfort zones.
Our enrolment cap per grade directly translates into higher student involvement across all student life activities. Should they want to try robotics, jump into MUN, or join the cross-country team, we are able to accommodate. It is not unusual to have students take part in a drama club one evening and be on the court for a morning basketball practice the next day, as they welcome the opportunity to try a variety of experiences.
Another element of student life is around the corner. The last week before break, students will be participating in a Winter Spirit Week with daily themes. Some themes are school-wide while others are for specific school divisions. This week will bring some festive fun before a well-deserved break for everyone. The last day before break, on December 19, students are invited to wear PJs with a Purpose. They can wear PJs and bring a $2 donation to benefit the Purpose Society (serving children, youth and families) in New Westminster.
Looking ahead, as our school continues to grow, so will the opportunities available to students. With our expanding athletic programs, new extracurricular initiatives, and an increasing variety of clubs, students benefit from richer experiences than ever before. Growth allows us to offer more choices, more pathways, and more meaningful moments for students to explore their passions, find their place within our vibrant school community and prepare our students for the future.
