If you have noticed an extra buzz of excitement on the third floor lately, you aren’t imagining things. This year, our Middle School launched a vibrant new initiative: The Golden Lion.
The Golden Lion is more than just a trophy; it is a symbol of our commitment to spirited collaboration and community building. The initiative is designed to bring our students together through friendly competition, allowing them to showcase their diverse talents while strengthening the bonds in their classes.
The excitement has been palpable. We kicked things off with a battle of wits, awarding a Golden Lion to our Middle School Chess Champion (Hanxi) following an impressive tournament that saw nearly 60 students vying for the title. We also took the energy outside for a massive soccer tournament, where 16 teams and almost 70 students took to the pitch. It was a fantastic display of teamwork, where the joy of playing together outshone the final score. Congratulations to 7Y (Charlie, Avni, Aria, Ayan, Aaryian) who took home the trophy!
As we head into the festive season, the Golden Lion continues to roar. Next week, we will award two more Lions. One will celebrate our community spirit as we wrap up our holiday PAX drive for the Purpose Society, and the other will launch our highly anticipated “Holiday House” competition.
What makes this initiative truly special is its limitless potential. These events are not top-down mandates; they are born from the passions and entrepreneurial ideas of both our students and the Middle School teachers who support them.
Friendly competition teaches us how to strive for excellence while lifting each other up. It builds resilience, fosters school pride, and, most importantly, makes school fun. As we look toward the new year, we are excited to roll out even more events that celebrate the unique spirit of our Middle Schoolers.
The Golden Lion is awake, and the third floor has never looked brighter.
Roar On,
Ms. Clare Manifold, Middle School Acting Principal
