SCHOOL Calendar

Discovery Days in Health Sciences is a one-day event that gives high school students and teachers the opportunity to explore a variety of career options in medicine and the health sciences.
Organized by The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, the day comprises a dynamic keynote lecture, hands-on workshops, and a career panel discussion. Students gain a clear picture of what it would be like to be a health professional by interacting with researchers, clinicians and educators in their real-life work setting.

From the site: Discover the impact of the fur trade on the creation of the colony of British Columbia and explore the relationship between the local First Nations and the Hudson’s Bay Company employees of Fort Langley.

Students will work in small groups to explore the fort and answer challenge questions. Which Brigade will collect the most Made Beaver tokens and arise as the day’s victor?

Following Fort Langley, students will take an hour tour of the BC Farms Museum

As part of Grade 11/12 Fitness and Conditioning, we have been completing various fitness testing procedures such as 1-Rep Max lift testing, the 12-minute run, sit-and-reach, etc). To provide these students with more advanced and accurate metrics about their current abilities, we will be attending Denman Fitness Centre where students will undergo a series of technology-driven fitness tests using apparatuses like force plates, motion sensors, and biomechanical analysis computer programs. This experiential opportunity relates to the BC curriculum in many ways, primarily "identify, apply, and reflect on strategies used to pursue personal fitness goals" since students will use these metrics to help inform their goals and fitness plans, as well as "identify and describe how muscles produce movement in different parts of the body and how to train those muscles" since most of the fitness tests they will execute isolate specific muscles, which may help to identify imbalances or weaknesses in muscle groups they may not be aware of. This opportunity also highlights the up-and-coming innovations in fitness and, by demonstrating highly beneficial ways to utilize tools like AI and advanced technology, continues to model future-focused learning.
