We haven’t even started the first day of school, and our parent leaders are already in full swing with planning for the year! Thank you to all of our parents who have, are, and will step up to help make the community spirit side of UA so dynamic and full. We are grateful to have the parents that we do, who get involved and help bring wonderful initiatives to life!

This year, PAX will be taking care of many initiatives we have come to love — everything from Breakfast With Santa, art cards and Neufeld Farm sales to community cleanups, and there are whispers already of a new fun parent social. PAX would love to have more volunteers to help with any of the variety of their activities, and would welcome hearing from you.

Our major community event this year will be the UA Carnival taking place on May 15, 2027. Mark your calendars for our third fun family fundraiser! If planning games, carnival food or major events is your passion, the Carnival Committee would love to have you on board.

Another event far closer to draw your attention to is the Tech Talk Webinar our staff are leading on September 21, on the topic of teens and digital literacy. We encourage parents to join Ms. Ball, Ms. Manifold and Mr. Twaites as they speak to technology, digital awareness and safety and how it connects to adolescent development. Further details and a link to the meeting can be found below.

I also wanted to share that the Development Department has expanded over the summer. Jacquelyn Dittrich has joined UA as the Associate Director of Development to support the needs of the school, ranging from community initiatives, parent committees, events, advancement, admissions, marketing and communications. I’m sure you’ll enjoy meeting her as she jumps into UA life!

So here we are, on the eve of a new school year. At UA, classrooms are ready, programs are planned, term 1 extracurriculars are being set, iPads are charged, and pencils are sharpened. At home, I’m sure uniforms are being located (where did that other cardigan go?) Shoes are being tried on (do your feet ever stop growing?) And lunch kits are being dug out of the back of cabinets (are we still good with the cartoon motif?) We are so ready for students to return for an incredible year on Tuesday. Please note all of the details in this weekly news below, and we can’t wait to see you at the Back to School Celebration next week!

Yours in all the excitement that is to come,

Sonja Kennedy
