Hume Park field was awash with UA House team colours today as students from K–Grade 12 participated in the annual Terry Fox Run this afternoon. Before the run, classes discussed Terry’s message of hope and came together to raise funds for cancer research. What a wonderful day it was as students pushed themselves to the limits. They earned house points for their teams by going above and beyond the requirements to complete extra laps, just as Terry pushed himself all those years ago. To support cancer research, you are welcome to contribute through the Terry Fox Foundation Portal for UA.
As we settle into our routines, we are thrilled to start our Term 1 extracurricular clubs, athletics, and experiential travel opportunities. These activities are a cornerstone of our school culture, offering students opportunities to stretch their knowledge, discover new passions, build lifelong friendships, and develop critical leadership skills to prepare them for the future. Whether your child is eager to join a new club, compete in a race, or explore the world beyond our campus, there is a place for everyone to get involved and grow.
All of our athletic teams, from volleyball to soccer and cross country, have started this week, with practices and games starting as early as next week. Following closely behind, our extracurricular clubs will officially start next week. Detailed schedules for clubs can be found on the Parent Hub. We strongly encourage every student to step out of their comfort zones—we like to call it ‘being stretched’—and join at least one group or activity this term.
In addition to these programs, we are excited to highlight this year’s Major Trips and Travel opportunities. This year the offerings are: Grade 8-9 Yukon or Grade 10-12 South Korea trips! A friendly reminder to families interested in our upcoming travel adventures: the deadline to sign up is September 30, 2026. These adventures are carefully designed to extend learning into real-world environments, offering unique cultural and environmental experiences. Information re: itineraries, registration deadlines, and recordings of info sessions for both trips can be found on the Parent Hub. Be sure to secure your spot before spaces fill up!
We are looking forward to an incredible year of opportunities to continue to offer students a well-rounded education that plants the seeds for lifelong passions!
Yours in Student Life,
Mike Twaites
