Over the past few weeks, UA’s Middle School Students launched an exciting new stage of the school garden program by planting seeds! They planted a wide variety of seeds, including tomatoes, peppers, leafy greens, brassicas, flowers and herbs.

Now, they have been moved indoors under grow lights in the classroom. They are tending diligently to the seedlings, growing inside the classrooms, where students can observe them closely each day and watch the early stages of growth. We will take good care of them over the break, but when students return from spring break in April, many of the seedlings will be transplanted into the garden beds outdoors.

Through this hands-on experience, students are learning about germination and what seeds need to thrive and grow successfully: water, soil, light, air, and space. This project is part of our garden curriculum, which aims to empower middle school students to grow their own food, deepen their understanding of the natural world, and develop a sense of stewardship for the environment.

We are excited about what is ahead and the abundance that will come from the UA Garden again this year!

Yours in Growth!
