Hello everyone,

I hope our families were able to make the best of the May Long weekend last week. For me it is usually the signal that the end of the school year is approaching, often faster than I would like. With the calendar changing over to June next week, please make a point of staying up to date with the school calendar and any events that may be happening in your child’s classroom that don’t appear in the Weekly Update. June will be full of events and activities including field trips, overnight camps, and even a trip to Disneyland (for workshops and a performance on a Disney stage) for our Senior Wind Ensemble students.

It is at this time of year that we also let our community know which members of the teaching staff will be moving on to new adventures and opportunities in their teaching careers. This year we have 4 teachers leaving UA. We know we will miss them at UA, but I am also very excited for them to continue to pursue their passion for education in their new roles. Leaving us at the end of June will be Ms. Pike, Ms. McKnight, Ms. Mailley, and Mr. Leclair. All of these teachers have made incredible contributions at UA over the years, and for that I thank them all.

Last evening we hosted a formal Wine and Cheese event for our UA Donors who contributed to the Community Bond (that enabled us to purchase the land and build this facility) as well as those donors who have been recognized with a leaf on our Giving Tree in the lobby. It was a wonderful event and an opportunity to welcome back many individuals who invested in UA in the early days. These passionate community members saw the vision and potential of the school and helped make it possible for all of us to enjoy Urban Academy as we know it today. It was also an opportunity to thank Mrs. Beaumont for the incredible work she has done over the years to help bring this building into existence. A big thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to Mrs. Kilpatrick and the UA Wind Ensemble for their outstanding musical performance.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
