Dear UA families,

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we find ourselves reflecting on the immense gratitude we hold for each and every member of our school community: students, families, and staff. Each of you contributes to the vibrant tapestry that makes UA a truly special place.

We were thrilled this week to unveil our Robotics program and Robotics team opportunities for our Middle Schoolers. Designed to foster creativity and innovation, the VEX Robotics program will immerse students in the world of STEM through coding, teamwork, and engaging competitions. Concurrently, the Business Club is back up and running in the Senior School, and we are proud to say it is completely helmed by student leaders. The Model UN (MUN) Team is preparing for their first foray into global politics and debate, and we have added Chess clubs to the Middle and Senior School extracurricular program as well, knowing that it fosters strategic and critical thinking. You can view the updated Extracurricular offerings for the Autumn Season on the Parent Hub.

These announcements of clubs and teams are fantastic, and also bring with them many opportunities for students to strengthen their skills and stretch a variety of muscles inside and outside of the school. With that comes a desire, and need, to have our own Urban Academy Activity Bus. So this coming week, in your mail you will find the overview of our “Let’s Get Some Wheels” Appeal – the Annual Appeal that will hopefully get us that bus! Any support you could offer would be greatly appreciated and will tangibly impact UA students and their opportunities to access learning outside of the classroom! So please take a look at that package once it arrives.

We imagine you are all looking forward to a sunny Thanksgiving long weekend. It is not only a time for feasting and celebration, but also a moment to pause and appreciate the many gifts that surround us. In our diverse and close-knit community, we are reminded daily of the richness that comes from different perspectives, backgrounds, and talents. Our students continue to impress us with their growth, curiosity, and empathy. They embody the spirit of learning and inspire us all to be better educators, parents, and community members.

With gratitude,
Brenda Ball, UA Principal
