Hello UA Community,

Thank you for making this first week back such a smooth one — we know a lot was going on that first day, but the buzz was very positive and we hope everyone enjoyed it! Thank you for your patience as we work out any kinks with parking, traffic, timetables etc., which are to be expected at the start of the school year.

Part of our mission is that we are ‘inspired by community’. That means many different things in our context. For students, it means seeing and cheering their peers on as they accomplish the things that they have been working toward; it also means that they get to learn from adults in the community — both staff and parents — who have wonderful skill sets and unique life experiences to share. If you are keen and open to sharing your skills, we would love to have you as part of our Community Talent Database

Urban Academy parents inspire our community — staff and students — by how they support initiatives, share expertise and come alongside us in your areas of passion. This will be a fun year with new events popping up: from grade group social events led by Class Parents, to our PAX taking on a Carnival for the first time ever. Parents lead hugely valuable services for our families, like our used uniform store and hot lunch. Take a look at the stocked used uniform store, as well as registration for hot lunches (below) if you haven’t already!

Really, what Urban Academy is, is a community of people working together toward our mission — in the ways that make the puzzle pieces fit, ultimately all for the benefit of our students. Each year it is inspiring to see new ideas come to life — both inside the classroom walls and outside — and on the precipice of this new year, I can’t wait to see what it holds as the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. So please, if you are a newer parent, or maybe just one who has yet to get truly connected but would like to, we encourage you to attend these upcoming events, get involved in an area of interest, contact your class parent or our Parent Volunteer Coordinator. I’m happy to have that conversation as well to see how we can continue to be inspired by community.

Yours in Development,

Sonja Kennedy
