On behalf of the UA Board of Directors, I’d like to welcome everyone back to the new school year! I also want to share a little bit about the role of the UA Board and extend an invitation to those who may be considering joining us.
The UA Board serves as the top-level governing body, focusing on the strategic direction and long-term health of the school. Unlike the day-to-day management handled by Mr. Slinger, Head of School, the Board is responsible for key fiduciary duties, including financial oversight, resourcing, growth, and ensuring the school’s mission is upheld. The Board also plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of School, who serves as the link between the school’s administration, community, and core values. Ultimately, the Board’s primary role is to ensure the school’s stability and success—both today and for generations to come.
The UA Board is continuously engaged in succession planning to ensure a membership with diverse backgrounds and experiences, not only for the upcoming year but also with strategic thought towards the next 2–3 years. We are now actively seeking members from our community who may be interested in applying for a position on the Board, commencing in January 2026. Volunteer experience with Urban Academy or elsewhere is encouraged, but representation from all members of our community is welcome.
To ensure a variety of skills and expertise are represented on the Board, we are prioritizing (but not limited to) the following key areas and backgrounds:
- Senior School Parents
- Designated Accountant
- Education Sector Knowledge
- Fundraising Experience
We welcome members of the community from all backgrounds and skill sets to consider applying.
