I’m not sure if you feel it too, but there seems to be something in the air these days. It may be the busyness and anticipation of the holiday season, or it could also be our incredible groups of parents who are leading community initiatives around what seems like every corner!

There are two major upcoming events that you may have already heard about. First, our dedicated PAX is busy planning the UA Holiday Fair & Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 6. This annual UA tradition is getting a festive makeover and expansion this year, featuring a delicious breakfast, photos with Santa, fun activities for all ages, and a brand new Craft Fair showcasing the talents of our community. It’s the perfect way to soak in the holiday spirit, and we warmly invite families and students of all ages to attend.

Next, in celebration of UA’s 25th year, the hard-working parent-run Gala Committee is in full swing. The Silver Soirée: Inspiring The Future Gala on Saturday, February 28, at the Hilton Metrotown is one of UA’s most significant fundraisers. The committee planning this upscale adult-only milestone event is paying extra close attention to ensure the entertainment, experience, food, and celebrations are second to none. So feel free to invite some friends and/or UA alumni, plan a table and get ready to celebrate! Early bird tickets are on sale now for this not-to-be-missed event, which will certainly sell out!

And finally, by popular demand, the UA Carnival Crew is starting to contemplate games, entertainment, and the most appropriate flavours of cotton candy to be served up at the Urban Academy Carnival taking place in April. They could use a few more creative planners and/or passionate carnies to be part of the committee. If this is you, please email the committee ([email protected]).

As you can likely tell, part of UA’s mission statement is ‘inspired by community.’ We really don’t have to look far to see how integral that statement is to the UA experience. On behalf of UA students (who may occasionally forget to say it), thank you to our families for all you do for the school. Urban Academy most certainly wouldn’t be the vibrant, connected and successful school it is today without the energy and passion of all of our families who participate in so many ways!

Yours in the busyness of the season!

Ms. Sonja Kennedy, Director of Development
