We wanted to highlight some of the wonderful work being done by UA Students. This year, students have the unique opportunity to participate in Community Connections, a new course that all Grade 8 and 9 students take that was designed to help them explore causes they are passionate about and become changemakers within their school and community. The goal is to inspire students to take action, create meaningful initiatives, and make a positive impact.
The response to this program has been overwhelmingly positive, with students launching a variety of projects that benefit peers of all ages. Some standout initiatives include:
- TED Talk Club for Younger Students: Senior students are mentoring younger peers by running a TED Talk club, helping them develop confidence in public speaking and express their ideas on topics they care about.
- Intramural Sports Competitions: Students have organized sports events that promote teamwork, friendly competition, and an active lifestyle.
- Junior School Support: Older students are assisting younger students and their teachers, fostering a sense of mentorship and collaboration.
- Nature Exploration: Senior students share nature education with Jr. Students, including a hands-on project of hatching and caring for baby ducks.
- Summer Camp for Young Entrepreneurs: Three Grade 8 students are planning an innovative summer camp where Grade 5 and 6 students will develop business, innovation, and entrepreneurship skills. More details on this exciting initiative will be shared soon!
- Community Support: assisting vulnerable children and youth in our communities and demonstrating their compassionate and culturally responsive nature.
As you can see, Community Connections provides students with a platform to share their passions, take risks, and invest in their communities. Their efforts exemplify the UA value of changemaking, proving that young people have the power to drive meaningful change.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity, leadership, and dedication our students have shown, and we look forward to seeing how their initiatives continue to grow and inspire others!
