Hello everyone,

What an exciting week it was at Camp!! I was fortunate to visit Camp Summit on Monday and was able to observe the incredible energy and excitement of our Grade 3, 4 and 6 classes as they began their camp adventure at Camp Squamish. Even the rainy weather didn’t stop them! Camp is such a great experience for the students and we look forward to continuing to grow and expand our Outdoor Education opportunities in the years to come.

I am writing this note prior to hearing first-hand reports from students in Grades 5, 7 and 8 regarding their camp experiences at Camp Elphinstone (5’s) and Strathcona (7 & 8’s). However, the feedback we have received from the teachers thus far has been very positive. Including the Grade 8’s canoeing up the coast to camp under the stars away from the main camp. These will undoubtedly be memories that will last a lifetime. Stepping outside our comfort zones often leads to personal discoveries and confidence building that is realized after completing a challenge. Camp is also a great way for students to practice some independence by disconnecting from their families for 48 hours and connecting with peers.

We are very excited that we have completed our teacher hiring for the 2024/25 school year with new teachers that will be great additions to our community. We will also be welcoming back 2 teachers from leave. Next year Ms. Diana Leeson and Ms. Courtney Hibberd will be returning to work at UA.

Please stay up to date with the UA calendar as there are still a number of events coming up over the next two weeks. We also expect to publish a draft calendar by the end of June to help families with some of their planning for the next school year.

Yours in Education,
Mr. Slinger
