I hope you have all enjoyed what I hope is the last bit of winter weather this week, soon we will be wondering where we can find the a/c! It is hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the spring break. The winter term has gone very quickly with so many wonderful things happening at UA.

Thank you to everyone who has re-enrolled for the 2024/25 school year. We are very excited to have your children back for next year as there are always exciting things on the horizon. We are currently welcoming new families to the community to fill the few available seats. Our junior and middle schools will be at full capacity next year, with some spaces available for Grades 8 and up. It won’t be long before UA is at full student capacity in those grades as well, so if there are friends or family members interested in our senior grades, please feel free to forward them along to our Admissions Department.

I have some other exciting news that I am pleased to be able to share with the community. UA has recently completed the paperwork to lease the house across the laneway. This transition will be happening at the end of this month. The UA staff have been busy planning for the takeover of the property and we look forward to sharing some of the plans and ideas we have for the yard area around the house later in the spring. We are looking forward to being able to add this new space for use by UA to start the 2024/25 school year.

You may have noticed that the flags outside UA are being flown at half-mast. Flags across the country have been lowered to recognize the passing of former Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney. The flags will remain at half-mast until his funeral.

Next week, we will wish safe travels to 31 of our Grades 10–12 students and four staff members who will begin a memorable 9-day trip to Japan on Tuesday. This is bound to be an experience that the students and staff will remember for the rest of their lives. I am so pleased that UA offers these rich experiences to our Senior Students, and I encourage parents to see the 5-year travel plans for students. Please check in regularly to UA’s social media channels for updates from the trip. The students and staff will return to Vancouver during the first week of spring break.

Additionally, Term 2 report cards will be published on MySchool on Thursday, March 14. And, please remember that Friday, March 15 is an early dismissal.

Finally, I would like to take a moment to wish all of the women in the UA community a very happy International Women’s Day. UA is a better place because of the contributions, support and compassion that you share every day. Thank you for being you!!

Yours in education,
Mr. Slinger
