Dear UA Parents,
I hope you have all noticed the progress being made on our construction project. You will notice that the majority of the exterior cladding is now up on the outside of the building. This week most of the glass has been installed on the new stairwell which looks just fabulous. Once the last of the glass is in place the Pro-Can team will be able to begin the finishing on the inside of the space. Completion is on the horizon, it is so nice to see our new spaces taking shape.
IMPORTANT: Wesgroup will be closing a good part of Braid St. between Rousseau and Brunette beginning on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00am through Thursday, May 12 at 5:00pm. This will be very disruptive to traffic patterns in the area and will likely cause delays. Please plan accordingly, it would be a great option for older students to take Skytrain to and from school, or to arrange for drop-off and pickup further away from the school than normal. If you do need to drop off at the school on these days, please give yourself more time and be patient. The purpose for the closure is to allow Wesgroup time and space to erect the large construction crane that will allow them to begin building the parkade and eventually the building next to us.
Early next week you will be receiving a package including key school dates and information for the 2022-2023 school year. I would like to highlight that one of the pieces of information will outline changes to our start and end times for the school. With the growth of the Middle and Senior schools we have needed to be creative in order to provide the course options for our senior students to create a rich and vibrant program. As a result, we have adjusted student start times. For the 2022-2023 school year the Junior School (K-3) will begin at 8:30am, and Middle School (Grades 4-8) will begin at 8:40am. Senior School students (Grades 9-12) will start at 9:00am for the regular first block of the day, while some will begin at 7:45am if they are enrolled in a course offered in ‘X’ Block. These are exciting changes as they will help us maintain a staggered drop-off for the various levels of the school, reduce our need for supervision staff, and allow our teenagers a bit more time to sleep which is great for their development.
Finally, I would like to wish all the mothers in our UA Community a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. We truly wouldn’t be the school we are without you. Enjoy the day.
