Dear UA Parents,

It was certainly nice to see the sun these last couple of days. I am sure all those impacted by the rains and flooding around the province have appreciated it more than anyone. A huge thank you to our UA community for your support of the Lion Leaders’ fundraising initiative for the flood victims. In total, we raised $6,194.35 for those affected by the floods. The challenge for the Lion Leaders was to determine the best organization to donate the funds to in order to maximize the impact of the financial donation. This is a good learning process for the students to experience, and their choices are noted below.

Next week, we’ll be publishing Term 1 report cards in MySchool at 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 9. In order to access the reports, parents will need to log in to MySchool and look at the menu on the left side of the screen for reports. Here you will find the reports for your student(s) for Term 1 and any previous reports from last year. You should also expect to receive a communication next week outlining some changes that I anticipate the Ministry of Education will make in regards to communicating student learning for the next school year and beyond.

You will notice some lines are now painted in the laneway to help direct traffic. Please do your best to follow these lines to help us keep everyone safe. Also please note that there is a stop line now painted between the school and the house…please stop at this line unless you know it is clear for your vehicle to turn towards the underground. This will make it easier for vehicles to exit the underground. We will also be painting an additional crosswalk at the entrance to the laneway. Hopefully, this will help drivers to not stop across the pedestrian crossing area.

Finally, a BIG thank you to all of the families who have contributed to the UA Finishing Touches Annual Appeal thus far. Over 90 families (34%) of our total have participated to date, which is fantastic. We are hoping that over the next few weeks we will be able to get close to the participation rate of 50% that we achieved for the first time last year. These funds make a big difference towards making UA the outstanding school that it is.

I hope many of you have plans to participate in Santa’s Playground this weekend at UA. I know PAX has done an amazing job in decorating the underground parking area to transform it into a winter wonderland. It should be a great day for the community. Ho ho ho…

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
