Dear Urban Academy Families,

It has been a wonderful last week of January. The UA Show Choir hosted families on Wednesday night to see the students’ work before they head off to California on Sunday. Our generous audience donated a significant sum at the door that will allow us to treat the students to activities in California that we had not been counting on. Thank you for your support!

Our basketball teams are doing well. The Grade 6/7 boys team defeated Stratford Hall on Monday and also took Southridge on Tuesday. They are working hard and having fun. Thank you to our amazing PAX team who provided a lovely Staff Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday for all our staff. We were very spoiled and had a wonderful start to the day with a beautiful meal, served in a very elegant fashion.

Ms. Wilson will go on maternity leave at Spring Break and we will welcome Mr. Kevin Nielson to our staff to take her class. Mr. Nielson will join us from Stratford Hall where he has been teaching and he is looking forward to becoming part of the UA team.

Re-registration is out today for our families for next year. Based on any spaces that may come available, we will be starting to offer to new families who have applied to Grades 1 and above. More Admissions Information Evenings are scheduled for this spring and are noted on our website. If you have friends or colleagues who are considering UA, there is wisdom in attending one of the sessions soon as there is limited space in many grades.

We continue to monitor the news and information on coronavirus. Health officials are working closely with the Ministry of Education and schools across the province to keep us informed. The Ministry of Health has been very clear that the risk in BC and Canada is very low and it will not be helpful to our communities to leap to inaccurate assumptions regarding the virus. At UA, activities are proceeding normally, as they are in all schools, and we are taking the same precautions we take at this time every year for flu, colds and the spread of germs, especially around young children. Attached to this email is the information we have received from the Ministry. These same highlights are included in the Fraser Health licensing updates that we receive as well.
