Dear Urban Academy Families,
Thank you for a wonderful final week of September. It was a pleasure hosting our new families at the New Parents’ Reception on Wednesday night and we hope that they enjoyed the chance to connect with community leaders and spend a little time getting to know each other.
The Annual Appeal launches on Monday, October 1 and packages are being mailed out to families tomorrow. Please go through the information and consider the level of support your family would like to provide to our growing school. Contributions to Advancement at any and all levels are greatly appreciated, and we issue a tax receipt for your gift. We are happy to provide packages to grandparents or extended family as well. Please just provide us with a name and address and we will send your family members a package.
I would like to share with you that our current Chair of the Board of Directors has had to step down from her duties as Chair due to a significantly increased workload in her personal work life and responsibilities. Jennifer Thompson has recently taken on a new challenge in her career and wants to ensure that the Board has the support it also needs so she has decided to step away from Chair responsibilities. Abi Shu will step into the role of Chair of the Board of Directors. Abi and Dave Shu have two daughters in the school, both at Uptown. Abi has served as Secretary on the Board and been active on committee work and the Gala team in recent years. Thank you to Jennifer for your amazing contributions and support for our school and our Board, and thank you to Abi for accepting her new post.
Our first Professional Day is tomorrow and teachers are engaged in work on assessment, both for report cards and in the classroom planning necessary as we implement more and more of the changing curriculum. Enjoy the wonderful fall weather and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning
