This morning, as everyone arrived at the building, we were treated to the joyful sound of music performed by our Junior UA students and a talented UA parent! It was truly heartwarming to witness students, families, and staff coming together for this impromptu performance. Musical Mornings is a new initiative spearheaded by Mr. McQuiggan and Mr. Chan to encourage students to perform in more informal settings and to share the joy of music more frequently. These sessions are open to everyone in the community and reflect our commitment to making music more inclusive, welcoming, and accessible. Parents are welcome to take part if you have musical talents you’d like to share!
Music has the power to connect us, celebrate diversity, and foster a sense of belonging. By creating more opportunities for students of all experience levels to participate, we are building a vibrant, supportive environment where everyone can find their voice.
In the same spirit of openness and creativity, we’re excited to share some thoughtful changes to this year’s Junior Spring Concert. We understand that while families love seeing their children perform, they also appreciate gaining a deeper insight into the Junior School Arts Program.
Therefore, this year, Mr. McQuiggan, in collaboration with Junior Homeroom Teachers, has designed a new format that will allow families to experience even more of the students’ artistic journey. During our Grades 1–3 Spring Concert on May 13, each concert will include an arts-space walkthrough on the second floor, followed by a 45-minute performance in UA’s Cheryle Beaumont Theatre. The walkthrough will showcase visual artworks and include recordings of various performing arts projects created in class. More information will be shared by Mr McQuiggan next week.
And of course, coming up next week on April 30, the whole community is invited to the Spring Showcase, led by another champion of sharing the joy of performing arts: Ms. Brooke. This showcase will feature our Grade 6–7 Junior Theatre Company presenting A Year With Frog & Toad Kids. Then the Grades 8–12 Senior Theatre Company are thrilled to present High School Musical Jr. For families of younger students who are interested in seeing how UA students progress in their performing arts journey, or would just like a fun family activity, we welcome you all to come, bring friends and experience the entertainment that UA students will provide! Ms. Brooke has also kindly offered to direct a special performance for our youngest students here at UA.
When we, as teachers and leaders, get to take a step back and experience our students’ talents, it offers some wonderful perspective. It is truly remarkable to see the progression and the flourishing of the Performing Arts Program. Many thanks to our dedicated team of educators for bringing their visions to life!
Yours in Education,
Ms. Dadar
Associate Principal of Junior School
