Weekly Update | June 11, 2021

June 11, 2021

Dear UA Parents,

Another great week has occurred at UA. This week our Middle and Senior school students had the opportunity to participate in day trips to Camp Summit in the Upper Squamish Valley. It was so nice for the students to be able to get out of the school and have a full day of activity outside in the fresh Sea to Sky air. I thoroughly enjoyed my day at camp on Monday with the Grade 5’s. This was definitely a reminder of what we will be able to do more of next year if we are able to return to more normal school routines.

Next week is Assessment Week for our older students. They will be working hard to complete year-end assessments and write some final exams. We wish them well as they prepare for the final push to the end of the school year.

Construction is continuing on the fifth floor with progress being made. Today, if you were by the school you may have noticed a giant crane off of Braid Street. This crane has been brought in to remove some concrete from the roof of the fourth floor, plus it will be loading some steel onto the construction site that will be anchored into place as the fifth-floor construction begins to be visible from the street. Due to the work with the crane, a number of our outdoor decks were closed today to ensure safety for students and staff while this work is underway. There is also drilling happening as part of the construction process, and this will be ongoing through next week. There is quite a bit of noise during the drilling process throughout the school, but it does mean progress is being made. Thank you to students and staff for being flexible during this time.

The next couple of weeks will be filled with a variety of events. Please make sure you pay close attention to communications from the school to ensure you are up to date. The end of June is always an exciting time in the school year. School will continue to follow all of the same COVID guidelines we have been implementing throughout the year, regardless of what changes to restrictions occur outside of school. I am very optimistic that we will be able to begin the school year without any significant restrictions. But we will not get our final Return to School Plan from the Ministry of Education until mid-August after we see how the rest of BC does in putting an end to the pandemic.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
