Guest Author: Mr. Rayhan (Grade 7 Student), Head of School For A Half-Day

It is truly an honour to be able to go from reading these emails to now writing one! My name is Rayhan and I was the Head of School for a (half) day. Today has been a unique yet wonderful experience, from having philosophical discussions with my ‘assistant’ Mr. Slinger to talking about the future of AI with Mr. McCulley-Haden.

In just a few hours, I really have learned a lot about what it actually means to be the Head of School. It’s about the tiny little details in the latest merch, the railings which need to be refurbished, and looking for opportunities to grow and expand as a community. I don’t know how Mr. Slinger manages to do it; he makes me realize how incredibly lucky this school is to have such an amazing leader.

Aside from my wondrous adventures today, some exciting things have happened lately! The GSA has hosted some incredible activities this week to commemorate the beginning of Pride Month, such as cookie decorating, an assembly, and sidewalk chalk. It’s very clear that a lot of hard work has been put into all of this, and I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we really appreciate it.

In the next few weeks, Grades 3–8 and 11–12 can look forward to camp, which is sure to be an exciting and memorable adventure with many laughs. The last week of school is coming up fast; it’s sure to be a teary-eyed one for our graduates, but hopefully a celebratory one as well. I know a few members of the graduate class this year, and they have been my idols for quite a bit now.

They demonstrate resilience, courage, kindness, positivity, inclusivity, and the UA spirit in ways that are truly inspiring to me. I know they are going to do great things in university, and that they will always strive to be the best version of themselves they can be. I wish them the best of luck going forward.

Before we conclude this email, I would like to again state how incredibly whimsical today has been! It was absolutely insane when I went on the PA and then heard my voice echoing around me to announce a Home Clothes Day that I got to choose for June 12. Even getting to write this email is a huge privilege. I’m pretty sure I’m going to remember this day for the rest of my life. I’d like to thank Mr. Slinger, Mr. Salazar, and Ms. Kennedy for hosting and organizing this awesome day; thank you so much.

It’s a bit rainy this weekend unfortunately, but it’s always a good idea to try spending time with your family, even if indoors; and with that, have a good weekend everyone!
