Dear UA Parents & Guardians,
I am excited to be writing my first Weekly Update as Urban Academy Principal! I am thankful to be working at UA with this excellent team of teachers, staff, and leaders, and with so many bright young enquiring minds. Thank you all so much for welcoming me into the UA community.
I am grateful for the sunshine that graced our first two weeks of school which allowed us to see so many bright and cheery faces and help us transition from summertime back to school time. Today’s cool weather bringing some much needed rain reminds us to pack for the weather so thank you for ensuring the children have raincoats and rain appropriate footwear so we can take advantage of our beautiful decks, rain or shine. The rain also reminds us to slow down and drive carefully; the first rainy day of the school year showed us busy traffic, so if you can, please give yourself a bit more time to get here so everyone arrives safe, sound, and as unstressed as possible. We also encourage our older students to have their parents park away from the school (not on Rousseau) and walk in, as we know they can manage this responsibility.
Next week will be a short week as we are recognizing the Queen’s Day of Mourning on Monday, so Tuesday to Friday will be abundant with activities and events, including the Terry Fox Run. Terry Fox is an icon—a human who wore his flaws openly, and challenged generations of people to make a difference. We are excited to celebrate his humanity, and to continue his good work in making positive contributions for the betterment of our society.
With gratitude,
Ms. Brenda Ball
