Dear Urban Academy Families,

Field study, athletics and co-curricular opportunities are well underway for the fall term. Our boys’ Grade 5 Soccer team won handily playing Meadowridge this week and girls’ Volleyball played hard at Southpointe. Our athletic program is growing and our students are becoming more confident competitors. We are looking forward to the fall Track events that ISABC hosts every year; our students enjoy those opportunities. The fall clubs at Robson for the younger group are just about set to get started, as you can see from the outline of opportunities in this email.
Students enjoyed the Terry Fox memorial run last week. Thank you for your support. A total of $1,977.00 was raised for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Class parents have been assigned in all but two classes where we are awaiting confirmation from parents willing to serve in this capacity. This role is a real help in planning drivers and supervision for field study for the younger students. If you wish to volunteer as a parent driver, please get your driver’s abstract, car insurance and criminal record check in. Mrs. McNamara at Robson can help with your questions and getting your criminal record check in progress.

Interim reports are coming up next week for Grades 6-12. It is already close to the halfway point in the first term and middle and senior students receive an Interim progress indicator at this point for parents in all academic areas and any elective areas where there are concerns. Please feel welcome to reach out to teachers with questions regarding your child’s progress and teachers will be contacting families to meet if they need to discuss progress before the first report card.

While it is still a few weeks away, Hallowe’en is on the horizon and this is usually a very exciting time for students, both at school and at home. I know families are already working with their child to choose a costume. Students are very welcome to wear their costume to school on October 31 in place of uniform. It does need to be a costume that they can actively play in and take part in the day’s special activities. Please be mindful of no weapons or something too graphic in terms of horror. We encourage costumes that are recyclable or made from environmentally-friendly materials. Thank you for planning ahead with your child on this.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your family. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday morning
