Dear Urban Academy Families,

Please find attached our school calendar for this school year. You will note some refinement on PAX activities as well as the PAX Hot Lunch dates that were noted last week. Our PAX group are working hard at developing some new activities for the school community and we want to support their enthusiasm and willingness to try some things that we have not experienced before. As the weeks go by, specific details will be provided about the various events that you will see on the calendar such as the Holiday Pop-Up Market hosted by both PAX and Gala, Santa’s Breakfast, and the Toy Drive just to name a few. They are doing a wonderful job of carefully planning activities for our school community. Our community will also note confirmation of the Gala date in April as well as firm dates for camps for intermediate and middle school students. Many school events must be tentatively scheduled and committed to by the school well before the event provider is able to fully commit but we are there now with those spring activities for our students and our community. Thank you for noting the adjustments and supporting our school events.

Our Annual Appeal packages were mailed out to families this week. We also reach out to grandparents who have donated in the past and their packages have gone out to them. If families have extended family members who would like their own package or an invitation to give, we are most pleased to provide that. Please simply provide us with the contact information for your family connections or businesses and we will reach out.

Our Parent Education evening workshop is approaching, and we are asking parents to RSVP for attendance at admin@urbanacademy.ca. This is a great opportunity to hear from a leader in the field on raising resilient kids. We are so pleased to offer this and hope that our families join us that evening. It promises to be most interesting and informative.

Hallowe’en is less than three weeks away. Students are most welcome to come to school in their costumes (no weapons or masks please, and we discourage costumes that are too frightening or gory). Our students range from very young to senior secondary and we want the little ones to be comfortable and have fun. Teachers plan activities for the afternoon and will provide direction on any snacks or refreshments. Please do not send candy or gifts for the class. We know this is a day students really enjoy!

Thanksgiving weekend is upon us and we have so much to be thankful for at Urban Academy; a strong teaching force, a wise and thoughtful Board guiding our school, a supportive and hardworking parent community and outstanding students who are learning and growing every day. Together we are a united school community, developing our school and our students’ education. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and steadfast commitment to our school. It is deeply appreciated and as your Head, I am most thankful for all of you and your hard work to ensure our school is an excellent place of learning for our students.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your family.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
