Dear Urban Academy Families,

What an exciting week! The students and staff have so enjoyed the new school and I know that parents are loving the extra space and light as well. Thank you for your kind words and messages of thanks and encouragement, it is very appreciated. We are getting used to our space and moving in as quickly as we can. Every day we develop adjusted routines that match the new space. And every day more things are finished and space is completed for us. We are working closely with the site superintendent to maintain a safe site but also get the work done so that facilities are ready for our students over the coming weeks and months. Thank you for your work with us to learn new drop-off and pick-up procedures. We want our parents to join us at school and yet also allow classes to complete without distraction. We have been vigilant as a staff about maintaining the schedule of when families go to classes to pick-up so that we can have a calm and focused learning environment for your child. I know that many of you are working everyday to figure out a new route to school and the timing of that. Please be respectful of our new neighbourhood, we want to be responsible new neighbours. Park in publicly permitted areas, not those that are restricted to resident “permit parking only”. The closer you arrive to your arrival times for class, the better and safer the whole system works. When families arrive 20-40 minutes early, you are using spaces that others were assigned.

Please do not park in “No Parking” or “Permit Parking Only” areas on the streets of Sapperton! New West residents pay for those permitted spots and they are not for the public to park in or for Urban Academy. Do not park in residents’ driveways or block their driveways. Public spots are for the public and those spots are open to anyone entering the area to park.

A reminder that tuition for 2019-2020 is due on April 1. There are two options for payment:

1. Lump sum payment on April 1

2. 10 monthly payments from April 1, 2019 to January 1, 2020

The tuition schedule is attached and for families with more than one child, the sibling discounts do apply. If you require confirmation of your tuition amount, please email admin@urbanacademy.ca. Also attached to this email is the Pre-Authurozied Debit (PAD) form if you would like the tuition payments deducted directly from your bank account each month. Payments can be dropped off next week with payments post-dated to April 1.

Our staff are changing their routines as well as our two previous campuses come together. The office staff are now one team. Ms. Courtney Pay answers the phone at school and she is happy to help all of you. Some Robson parents request to speak to Mrs. Miranda McNamara when they call. Her responsibilities are shifting and she will not be the one on reception. Ms Pay can help all of you with your queries and if she needs to check with Mrs. McNamara on some information to help you out, she will do so. All of you will get to know Ms. Pay and will find her to be a warm and welcoming voice. All of the staff have come together from both schools. They are meeting all of the students and getting to know them well and colleagues from both campuses are helping each other out to make sure the transition is smooth.

Thank you to all of our school community for your help and support to make sure our students are successful in their new school. It has been a pleasure to introduce you to our new site. We will continue to work through the details of the move and the growing school together, just as we do with everything we undertake as a community. Thank you for a great first week!

Enjoy your weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
