Dear Urban Academy Families,

It has been a wonderful week with a number of year end activities for students as well as final exams and projects due for our older students. Sports Day was a lot of fun for everyone and Hume Park is a very enjoyable new venue for us to relax as well as take part in sporting events. You will see a Save the Date invitation from our Board of Directors for the annual Back to School Barbeque to be held on August 29 at Hume Park. It will be a little different this year as we host it at a local park but will follow the usual pattern of classrooms open for parents and students to meet their new teachers in the afternoon then off to the BBQ. We also anticipate hosting you to look at the completed third and fourth floors that day as well.

I have attached an updated UA calendar for families. Please note a changed date for student pictures and re-takes to accommodate our new school photo company, LifeTouch. We also have the opportunity to have both camps (Grades 4 & 5 and Grades 6 & 7) take place at the same time next year so we are going to take advantage of that opportunity. PAX activities are getting confirmed as well so please note those confirmations.

The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Kimberly Grant has been appointed as a Member-at-Large to the Board. Kimberly and her husband have a little boy in Grade 2 at the school and Kimberly has served on the Finance Committee for the last two years. We welcome her to this new position and are looking forward to working with her in this new role.

The survey that was sent out to our families a couple of weeks ago has been completed and we had an amazing response rate of 69%! Thank you for your thoughtful responses and helpful feedback. Your feedback does help shape some operational decisions and directions as we go forward, and I very much appreciate the time and care taken in completing it for us.

Have an enjoyable weekend and we look forward to the last week of a very successful year with our students.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
