Dear Urban Academy Families,

Urban Academy Weekly Email

We are pleased to be back working with our students and to hear about their holiday. Staff had some very productive days in the last week, clearing out closets and making trips to the thrift store as well as bagging up “treasures” which will not go with us to the new school. We are working through our timeline in preparation for the move as noted in the message I sent out to our families. We do need everyone’s support in signing up for an orientation evening as well as attending the introductory day on March 4. The safety of the children in transitioning to a new environment that they are unfamiliar with is the highest priority and we want to ensure families have had a chance to tour the building and enjoy having a look at our new school before the focus must go on safely delivering students to the new site.

I did include the adjusted calendar with the message out on our project and move update however, it is included again with this email. Please take particular note of the plans for student attendance and OOSC during the week of the move to the new school.

Please mark your calendars for February 5th at 7:00 pm for the Community Leadership Evening at the Robson campus. An invitation will come on Monday of this coming week for you to reply to so that you can confirm your attendance. This evening is hosted by our Board and community leaders who chair committees or lead parent initiatives. They will speak on the opportunities to become involved in our school for all of our parents. This is also an opportunity to meet other parents, and to learn about how to provide service to our school, even at a very initial and preliminary stage. Our speakers will share the activities and initiatives that they undertake and the obligations, most of which are very doable within the volunteer hours for our families and I know many of you look for volunteer hours – here is an excellent chance to take care of that! Our Parent Auxiliary is always looking for new members and would welcome those interested to join at any time, not just in September. Our Gala Committee, parent volunteers, Board of Directors and Finance Committee will all be there to answer questions and help you find a place that would interest you within our school community.

Admissions of new students for September is well underway with Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes in process and we are now assessing students in grade one and above for next school year. It is an exciting time for our school as so many new families join us. Please consider how you can be part of reaching out to new families to make them welcome and to help them join the school community. Re-registration documents for our current families will go out next week – those documents, along with the fees noted will be due in the office on February 21 with payments dated February 28. The due date is slightly earlier in anticipation of the move schedule that coincides with our re-registration deadline. A reminder for any families wishing to apply for Tuition Assistance that the deadline for applications is January 31, 2019.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
