Dear Urban Academy Families,

It has been brought to my attention that some families may have mistakenly thought our orientation sessions for the move to be held February 19, 20 and 21 are being held at the new school. As noted in the newsletters, we are not meeting at Rousseau St. We will hold the orientations at Robson Manor. Please register if you have not already done so. OOSC is available on March 1 and 4 with the usual sign up procedure and the usual costs for non-session days. We will accommodate on a first-come first-served basis for the available spots. Please note that OOSC for these two days, March 1 and March 4 will be at the Uptown Campus, not at Robson as usual.

We experienced quite a change in the weather this week! Please ensure that your child has a warm jacket, mitts and a toque with them on these days so that they can enjoy the beautiful crisp days outside. We have had a few little ones who have come without enough layers to keep warm and they need their fresh air and playtime.

Thank you to our Board of Directors for hosting the Community Leadership Evening this week. A number of guests joined us to learn about leadership opportunities available in our school community. Please feel welcome to follow up with questions or an expression of interest in a committee or an initiative if you were not able to be with us. We very much appreciate the interest shown by several new members of our school community to take on a role serving our school.

I have attached our current school calendar to this email and wish to draw your attention to a change. We have recently learned that the Anvil Centre Theatre can accommodate our reservation for the theatre for our Spring Plays but are now unable to provide any ancillary off-stage space for the students. We must have that in order to provide a successful production – and we have a lot of little actors that need space! We are able to book the Massey Theatre for our Spring Plays but we will need to move the date to May 14 and 15. Please note this change in your plans as we prepare for the production.

Returning families are reminded that re-registration documents and the Consolidated Activity Fee is due in to our office on February 21. Families are welcome to date their cheques for February 28 as we always have, but the commitment should be in by the 21st to avoid any registrations being missed during the week of our move to Rousseau Street.

Sexual Health Education for our K–Grade 12 students is coming up the third week of February. We encourage all of our students to be in those workshops and parents are most welcome to attend the parent presentation on the materials on Wednesday, February 13 beginning at 6:30pm at our Robson campus.

Our annual Gala is drawing near and tickets are selling fast. The Gala is always a wonderful evening to enjoy each other’s company, celebrating our community and focused on supporting our students in their learning. If you haven’t already purchased your ticket, please do so through your MunchaLunch account or from the administration office at the Robson campus. There are a limited number of tickets remaining and you don’t want to miss out on this extra special evening as we toast the move to our new facility with the signature cocktail, The Alpinetini, at the Alpine Credits Top Hat Lounge Happy Hour from 6-7pm. The early bird ticket sale ends on February 9, but tickets will still be available after that date. We look forward to seeing you there!
