Dear Urban Academy Families,

Thank you for a wonderful week working with your children. We are enjoying the second term. Staff at UA would like to thank PAX for lovely staff appreciation luncheons, hosted by PAX, at each site. The luncheons were wonderful and it was great to be so well-treated. We felt very special with the attention the PAX team provided. Thank you!

Our school community is very lucky with the parent leadership that is provided. We have a hard-working PAX, a great Gala team, a very thoughtful and responsive Volunteer Co-ordinator, an amazing Class Parent Co-ordinator and Class Parents and a superb Board of Directors. Community members also volunteer on committees and their work supports the direction of the school. All of them provide amazing leadership and each of them are appreciated. They all have different roles and all have their place. I am so very glad that all of them give so generously to the school for our students.

Our Board of Directors is hosting a Community Leadership Evening next week. Karim Merali heads up that initiative and he has provided a message in this Friday email. We encourage all community members who would like to learn about opportunities to contribute to the growth and development of our school to come out and learn about how to get started.

Our students are providing leadership as well. Uptown Leadership students were at Robson this week to share activities that they have planned as the two campuses of new students come together this spring. This is an exciting time for our students and our older ones are taking the lead to encourage the development of one campus and one school community of students.

Early Bird tickets for our Hats Off Gala are on sale for one more week – until February 9. Your Gala Committee will be at the Robson Campus on February 4, 5 and 6 from 2:50pm-3:30pm selling tickets or you can buy them through your MunchaLunch account. At last year’s Gala we committed to raise funds for instructional technology as well as classroom supplies and literacy materials and we were successful. Every classroom in the new school will have BrightLights interactive whiteboards and projectors installed to allow teachers and students to use instructional technology as a part of everyday work. We are once again looking forward to a wonderful evening focused on supporting our students. The annual gala is always a wonderful evening for our community to come together and celebrate each other. This year is shaping up to be extra special as we toast the move to Rousseau at the Alpine Credits Happy Hour in the Top Hat Lounge from 6-7pm. With many exciting experiences and items up for grabs in the silent and live auctions, this is an evening you don’t want to miss.

We are all working hard to bring the next steps of our school development to fruition. It represents change and we will all be pulling together to make it work for our students. I would like to acknowledge my staff as well for their flexibility in making the last weeks work in these old buildings amid the boxes and trips out to the bin. It is an exciting time for our school and we are focused on what matters, our students’ success. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Have a wonderful weekend.
