Dear Urban Academy Families,

Thank you for joining us for our Winter Concert production at the Massey Theatre on Wednesday night. Our program is maturing and you can see the development of our students’ learning in the performance arts. Thank you to our staff for their leadership in this area, Mrs. Brooke, Ms. Macdonald and Mr. McDiarmid. They could not do this without the support of all of their colleagues who help with rehearsals, costumes, props, covering classes, organizing students for rehearsal and handling 225 excited kids behind stage (and getting the right kids on stage at the right time!). It is truly a team effort and our students are most pleased to share their learning with you. A special thank you to Joanna Marsolais, Reeshma Premji and Tracey Oh for their work on costumes for our students.

Urban Academy will be hosting our second Community Leadership Evening on February 5, 2019 at the Robson campus. The evening will be an opportunity for community members to look into the many wonderful leadership opportunities available to our Urban Academy parent community. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for this information evening. More information will be provided in the New Year. The evening’s event is being hosted by the Board of Directors’ Board Development Committee and headed up by Director Karim Merali. The Board of Directors extends their wishes for a joyous, safe and memorable holiday season and hope to see you at the Community Leadership Evening in February.

Mike Vint has stepped down from his position as a Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors. The Board thanks Mike for his service and his support of our school.

As we enter the last week of the school year in 2018 we always ask students to clear out items from their lockers that should go home. Please plan ahead to work with your child on ensuring that backpacks, lunch kits, musical instruments and any curricular items they will need over the holidays go home by Friday of next week. Uptown students in particular will have a locker clean-out session planned for Thursday of next week.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
