Dear Urban Academy Families,
Thank you for another great week working together. We enjoyed the Science Expo this week in the Learning Commons on our third floor. Thank you to the judges who always provide such thoughtful feedback to students so that they learn from the experience and get the chance to work with people other than their regular teachers on the outcome of their projects.
As we enter the last term, the final plans for our celebrations to honour our graduates are well underway. We will host Commencement for them at the end of the school year as is tradition at Urban Academy and we have planned a dinner dance for them and their guests in late May. Members of our school community who would like to attend are welcome. It is an evening for adults and the students’ classmates in Grades 8 and up. The event will be held in our new school and is set for the evening of May 25. An invitation is included in this email and for those who wish to purchase tickets to attend, please contact Ms. Régnier at admin@urbanacademy.ca. If you have questions regarding the event, please feel welcome to contact Ms. MacLeod at s.macleod@urbanacademy.ca. Our students will be inviting their family and friends, staff and Board members will attend and if community members would like to join us, please do so.
Next week is a short week with the Easter break and a Professional Day for staff. We are working on a number of items together; the next steps in orienting students to the building and site, planning a joint project for our students from the two campuses to get to know each other, the upcoming events for the Spring that were put on hold as we moved and transitioned into the new building and looking ahead to next year. As many of our new staff for September as are able to will join us.
The information for Mother’s Day Tea is included below in this email. This is for moms of JK to Grade 5 students. We hold it on the afternoon of May 9 and will host it in our school this year. Moms will be invited to have tea and goodies then enjoy some entertainment the students have prepared. For our new families, this is an important UA event. Please respond so that we can plan for our guests. Soon the tickets for the Spring plays will be available as well. We will start organizing that in next week’s email which will arrive right before the long weekend starts. It does not seem possible that we are there yet, but the term is moving along.
Summer sign up for Out-of-School Care is open today and the registration form is attached to this email. Please go through the process carefully and take care of this quickly to ensure a space for your child.
