Head of School’s Weekly Message

October 8, 2021

Dear UA Parents,

I hope you have all had a good week. We were grateful to celebrate World Teacher Day this week (October 5) as we are all very appreciative of all the incredible work our teachers do to make UA a special place to learn for our students. Ms. MacLeod and I were happy to walk around the school and present every teacher with a chocolate apple as a symbol of our appreciation.

There was a lot going on after school this week as all our soccer and volleyball teams had games, and we also took part in our first-ever competition for our eSports team. It is wonderful to see so many students having the opportunity to represent UA in competitions with other schools. Go Lions!

Today we were very pleased to welcome back some of our JK students. We are very appreciative to everyone in JK for their support and cooperation these last couple of weeks. We are looking forward to welcoming the remaining JK students back on Tuesday. Thank you to all of our Junior School students who have done an amazing job making the adjustment to wearing masks at school. We are hopeful that our gifts of lanyards to all our Junior Students make mask wearing a little bit easier.

Also this week we launched the UA Annual Appeal. You will see it in your actual mailbox, but this year’s theme is ‘The Finishing Touches Appeal’. Raising funds through the appeal is an integral initiative in finishing the facility with some sound treatment throughout the school, furniture for our new floors, and additional technology such as Apple TV’s and robotics equipment. We would not be able to offer our students all the programming that we have or have the 4th and 5th floors ready for our students, without the support of our UA community, so thank you in advance for your contribution. We have set a goal of 100% participation from our community at whatever level you can contribute, as every bit counts. I will be sharing our progress as we go, but we appreciate you!

I am also excited to announce that we have flipped the switch and that our new UA Parent Hub, which is a parent intranet, is now live. I encourage all parents to click the link and check out this one-stop-shop for all UA information. Don’t forget to bookmark it as this will make it easier for you to find important documents, handbooks, event information, and key contacts.

I wish you all an enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you have the opportunity to spend some time with family and friends. I know I am thankful that I will be able to host my family for dinner, something that we have not done much of the last several months.

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
