Dear Urban Academy Families,

The fall term is flying by and we are making plans at school for report cards and the Winter Concerts. Regarding report card interviews, you will see specific information in this week’s email on the sign-up process to ensure you can meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Information on accessing the parent portal to do so has been in the email in recent weeks now and is included again. Please take a moment to make sure you can access the system so that you are able to make plans for the interviews. Report cards will go home the day before the interviews so that you can have it with you at your meeting with the teacher.

Ticketing for the Winter Concert at Massey Theatre on December 11 is underway as well and the instructions for that are also included in the email this week. Please book at least your initial tickets so that every family can be sure to see the performance. Once we get to the date when we assign extra tickets, your opportunity may be missed. Our JK and K students will be hosting their families at their own concert at the school this year, but they are very welcome and encouraged to join us at the Massey to see “Frozen” and “Holiday Road Trip”. It promises to be a great show and teachers will be working with you on details for that evening.

A major activity for us at school in the next few weeks is admissions for 2020-2021. Kindergarten applications close today, and we have a significant number of families seeking admission to UA for September. We will be moving forward with assessment and admissions for K students for next September at the end of the month. The next group will be Grade 1 and up, followed by JK in February. We are really pleased to be welcoming new families to the school.

Out of School Care registration for the Christmas break will be available starting next week as well. We will offer care December 27, 30, 31, January 2 and 3, and see if registration fills up and which days can go ahead. We do want to offer care for families that need it however, if we only have a couple of students registered for some of the days, we may not be able to staff that. Please stop in to register and pay so that we can commit your spot.

I will be providing direction to junior school students on Beyblades this week. We do have the expectation of no toys at school and Beyblades in the foyer and classrooms are becoming a challenge. Students in Grades 1-5 will have messages in their blogs on this starting Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
