Dear Urban Academy Families,
We were very pleased to welcome our students back after the holiday season and we are now back into the regular routine of school. We hope all our families had an enjoyable holiday break.
There are a number of important deadlines coming up in January and February and these are outlined for you below. Please take note of them as the weeks do tend to slip away! It is only mid-winter, but we are deep into administrative planning for next school year.
January 15 – Current Junior Kindergarten and new Kindergarten 2020 families’ Consolidated Activity Fee is due to secure their September 2020 seat.
January 31 – Applications for Tuition Assistance for the 2020-21 school year are due for consideration and approval.
Re-registration materials are sent out to current families in K-Grade 12 to secure their September 2020 seat.
February 14 – Junior Kindergarten applications for the 2020-21 school year due for September 2020.
February 26 – Consolidated Activity Fee and re-registration paperwork is due for all returning families in Grades 1-12.
April 1 – Tuition is due for the 2020-21 school year.
As we have now been in the building for the better part of a year and two full terms, I am refining some practices to ensure safety and security as well as the best use of staff to support our students. The gate in the parkade was closing at 6:15pm and will now come down at 5:45pm. Families who need to pick up a student after 5:45pm can still park in the back lot but the gate will be down. For those parents still in the parkade at 5:45pm when the gate comes down, driving up to the exit gate will activate the sensor to open the gate for you to drive out. While we are not able to have families in the parkade right at dismissal time for the safety of our students moving through the area, however OOSC families and families collecting students at 4:00pm and later are welcome to use the parkade. We need to ensure that the school is dismissed before any pick-up so that the movement of children in the parkade is undertaken safely.
The weather forecast is very changeable these days, but it is likely to get colder over the next two weeks. Please ensure your child has warm winter clothing and that you check your email for any potential snow closure notifications. We have included that protocol in this email for you again.
The UA Show Choir will be performing for their families and guests on January 29 at 6:45pm to showcase all their hard work to date. Tickets for families of students not in the Show Choir will be released to the parent community on January 15 and can be obtained from Mrs. McNamara by emailing her at m.mcnamara@urbanacademy.ca. This adult-only evening performance is by donation at the door and will feature a cash bar and light appetizers. Staff and students are excited to showcase their talents and they are also preparing to offer insights into their journey and what they have learned already through this opportunity.
