Dear UA Parents,

Happy Friday everyone. I would like to acknowledge the amazing work our students are doing with the Read-A-Thon. It is great to see so many students keen on reading. I am looking forward to learning which students I will have the honour of lunching with after the Read-A-Thon comes to a close. My simple polling methods with the students have indicated that lunch may consist of McNuggets, ice cream cake, and/or lobster. Keep on reading!!

I hope you have all had the opportunity to review the UA 2021-2022 Planning Document that was shared with families yesterday afternoon. This document describes what our programming will look like next year and into the future. The document also explains the school structure with respect to the Primary, Middle, and High School levels.

I also issued an announcement about the new COVID-19 K-12 Guidelines that have been published by the Provincial Government. I shared the highlights yesterday regarding the wearing of masks which is the most significant impact in the day-to-day routines for staff and students. We will take some time to review the 53-page document and then make the necessary updates to our Health & Safety protocols. Once these are complete, we will post the updated document to the UA website. We have been very successful in the UA community in keeping the virus away from the school.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced this morning that she will be extending the Provincial Health Orders at least through to the end of February. I am hoping that we will all continue to do our part in ‘bending the curve’ even lower so that we will be able to get back to things like youth sports and activities, small gatherings with friends and family, and perhaps even the opportunity to travel in BC at Spring Break. But it will take a concerted effort by all British Columbians to comply with the orders.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and The Weekend, this weekend. If you don’t know, it is Super Bowl Sunday and ‘The Weekend’ will be performing one of the most unique half-time shows in the history of the Super Bowl. Let’s hope it is a good show!

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
