Head of School’s Weekly Message

February 17, 2022

Dear UA Parents,

We are heading into the first long weekend of 2022. I hope you all have the opportunity to spend some time with people close to you this Family Day weekend. A reminder that tomorrow is a Pro-D Day, our staff will be participating in the ISABC Pro-D Day focused on mental health and wellness. I hope some of you in our parent community took advantage of the opportunity to register for some of the sessions as the ISABC opened up the conference to parents this year.

I was very pleased to hear the announcement from Dr. Henry earlier this week that some COVID restrictions have been lifted as of today. It is important to note that some of the K-12 Guidelines have also changed, but the rules for schools are not the same as for the general public. We will be able to have assemblies again and larger group gatherings of students and staff without restrictions. However, any events or gatherings that welcome parents or other visitors are still restricted to a 50% capacity limit. Masks will continue to be required for everyone inside the school. The change in the restrictions also gives us great confidence that our Annual UA Gala will be able to take place in person on April 23, 2022, at the Aria (see more details below).

I would like to thank all our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication during our winter athletics season. All our basketball teams had an excellent year with the final games of the season being played this week. The improvement that our teams experienced over the last few months was a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication that everyone put into the season. The spring season is up next, so keep your eyes and ears open for these opportunities in the weeks ahead.

Enjoy the four-day weekend. I am hoping to be able to tune in and watch some of the Olympics this weekend as I haven’t seen much of the coverage to date. I was pleased to hear this morning that the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team brought home the gold medal last night against the USA. I am sure it will be an eventful few days as the Olympics come to a close on Sunday.

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger
