December 20, 2019

Dear Urban Academy Families,

Thank you to families for all the lovely treats and good wishes provided to staff, these have been most appreciated.

We have enjoyed the last week before the holidays with the students. They are very ready for a break, some time at home with family and a good rest before we take up the rest of the winter term. We acknowledged our Honour Roll students at their assembly on Thursday afternoon with recognition for those who achieved Honour Roll standing and Head of School’s Honours List. Students enjoyed “The Sound of Music” at the Arts Club this week and Intermediate and Senior students are at the Anvil Centre today to see a production of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. The little ones are enjoying a slower day today as they wind up before the holidays. Congratulations to our beginning basketball teams who have played well. Senior students’ efforts against Stratford Hall on Thursday were outstanding.

It was a full week on every other front as you can see with the trees now planted on Rousseau and the laneway. The City team arrived Tuesday morning to deal with those two areas. I am pleased to have that in place and the lower shrubbery will follow.

Thank you PAX for a successful Purpose Society drive to support needy and challenged families with gifts. The tags on the tree have been taken up, promises fulfilled, and the box has been filled and emptied more than once with items families can really use. Our community has pitched in and responded and that is appreciated.

The school will be closed from tonight until December 30. OOSC will start up again on December 30. The Administration Office will be open on December 31 and messages will not be checked until December 30, however after that point business staff will be available for our community if necessary.

Thank you for a wonderful and momentous 2019! It was quite a year for our school and I am deeply thankful for our Board of Directors, under the leadership of Chair, Dr. Abi Shu. Their steadfast guidance of the school has put us in a very solid and sustainable position going forward. Thank you to my outstanding staff, who always put the needs of their students first and are committed to the success of the school. And our parent community: we could not do this without you! Thank you for your support and encouragement and our teamwork as together we teach and guide your children. The very best of the season to all of you and our wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on January 6 at the usual time, ready for 2020!

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
