Hello UA Parents,

We have had another exciting week in the UA office this week. I was really excited to have the opportunity to begin meeting with teachers one-on-one. I was able to meet with about one third of the teachers this week and loved hearing about their summer adventures. I was very impressed with their professionalism and their eagerness to get back to work to make sure that your children continue to have the excellent UA learning experience that you have come to expect. What struck me the most about the teachers that I met with is that they are all people of good character. I will be meeting with the rest of the teachers over the next couple of weeks.

I had an important call this week with the office of our local Medical Health Officer from Fraser Health and was able to share some of the draft plans we have for the restart at UA. I was very pleased to hear that we are definitely on the right track with our planning to ensure our school environment meets the expectations of the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry. I am expecting an operational update from the Ministry of Education next week which should guide the final stages of our planning. I am hopeful that we will be able to share the full plan with the UA community the week of August 24.

It appears that it is going to be another beautiful weekend in the Lower Mainland. I hope you are able to get outside and enjoy what our communities have to offer. Of course, we all need to follow provincial health guidelines regarding physical distancing, washing our hands, and only gathering in small groups to ensure that we are able to collectively manage the curve. A special shout out to all of the UA Board members who will be joining me all day on Saturday and Sunday for our Annual Board Retreat. Thank you for your dedication to the UA community.

Yours in education,

Mr. Slinger

Head of School
