Head of School’s Weekly Message

Hello Families,

It has been another eventful week at Urban Academy!

This afternoon I had the opportunity to join Mr. Gow and Ms. Ball in the annual Gr 12 luncheon. We walked with our Gr 12’s to Browns for lunch to celebrate their years of learning at UA and the fact that they have all been accepted to their top choices of post-secondary schools and programs so far (still waiting on UBC Sauder School of Business and McGill) with acceptances being offered at the following schools to date – SFU (Beedie School of Business), UBC, CapU, UVIC, Langara, and UofT. The UA Class of 2023 is such a great model of what we hope all of our students are able to grow into by the time they graduate. These students are ready to take on the next chapter in their lives with a strong co-curricular foundation, confidence and resilience. If you would like to hear more from our grads, and some Gr 11’s, please take a few minutes to watch our Students Of UA videos. We are very proud of our young people poised for a bright future.

I would also like to thank all of our families who re-registered and submitted their tuition deposits. This is extremely helpful in our planning for the 2023-2024 school year. We are all looking forward to another outstanding year ahead at UA.

We are heading into the final week prior to spring break which will hopefully be accompanied by some better weather. We will be saying “hasta luego” (see you later) to our 21 students and 4 staff members who will be flying off to Costa Rica next Wednesday for UA’s Senior School trip. I am sure it will be an incredibly memorable experience for all involved.

Yours in education,
Mr. Slinger
