Head of School’s Weekly Message

Dear Families,

January is a month when we celebrate New Years and new beginnings. It is so lovely to see our students dressed in Home Clothes and Lunar New Year celebration clothes today in the halls and classes of UA. We wish all of you Gōng xǐ fā cái, Chúc Mừng Năm Mới, Saehae Bok Mani Bada, kotoshi mo yoroshiku o-negai-shimasu, Amar baina uu? and Happy Lunar New Year. Sincere thanks to all of the families who made our school extra festive during the Junior School Assembly today and class activities. How fortunate are we to have such a wealth of knowledge-sharing and caring in our school!

Many of you may have already seen posts or have heard from your children, but we have been fortunate to partner with Futbol5 which is an indoor turfed gym facility just across the street (very walkable) from Urban Academy. So now, many of our Primary and Middle School students get to have additional time to run and play during the day, doing all kinds of things from playing soccer, learning dances, throwing a frisbee and playing tag. With the addition of this extra physical activity time, staff has already noticed students’ increased focus and greater productivity during their academic time and they are having a lot of fun as well!

Coupled with physical literacy and activity is academic literacy and activity: the Read-a-Thon begins next week just in time for Family Literacy Week! You can read all the details about our PAX sponsored Read-a-thon below and how Grade 1-8 students can get involved.

We wish you all a year of health, happiness, and prosperity going into this Lunar New Year weekend.

With gratitude,

Brenda Ball
