Hello Everyone,

It is hard to believe that this is the last day of school in 2022. It has been a very exciting year for all of us at UA with many highlights including the completion of our school construction project, and of course, all of the excitement that our students and staff bring to school every day. 2023 is bound to be another robust and busy year!

As I contemplated my holiday message this year, I thought I would investigate a little support from AI (Artificial Intelligence) since I have been hearing a lot about it in recent weeks and its potential impact on education and work in general. So here is what my AI assistant came up with in about 10 seconds with these instructions: “holiday message from Head of School at Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school”.

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

As the holiday season approaches, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for all that you do to make our school community a special place. Whether you are a student working hard in the classroom, a teacher inspiring our young minds, or a parent supporting your child’s education, you are a vital part of our school family.

The holiday season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and joy. As we come together to celebrate with our loved ones, let us also remember those in need and consider ways that we can give back to our community.

I hope that you have a wonderful holiday season filled with warmth, happiness, and laughter. Thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Sincerely,
[Head of School]

I share this to let you know that the world is changing quickly, and how we educate and assess student progress will have to adapt along with all of these innovations. I am excited for some of the changes as we will have no choice but to break free of some of the systemic structures in education that have been in place for decades. As we have an agile and responsive staff team, I am confident that they are ready to respond to our changing way of being, and the opportunities that emerge will allow UA to educate students for tomorrow’s world.

Speaking of the future, the 2023-2024 school calendar (PDF) has been published and can be downloaded. Please note that Good Friday falls in the middle of Spring break in 2024 so we are moving that holiday to Friday, November 10 which will provide families with a 5-day weekend in November.

I would like to wish everyone in the UA community a wonderful holiday break. I encourage you to take this time to rest and recharge, as 2023 is going to be full of excitement for everyone in the UA community.

Yours in education,
Mr. Slinger
