International Student Acceptance Process

Complete and submit the application package

This includes the International Student Application Form as well as supporting documents (application fee, copy of passport, copy of student visa (if available) and official transcripts (translated into English by Official Translator) for the current year and a previous year. We also request a letter of reference from a teacher (translated into English). Photocopies of transcripts Photocopies of transcripts and school records must be certified with a school stamp. Failure to comply will result in a delay or the application not being processed.

Urban Academy screens applicants

Applicant is screened for admittance by the Head of School. Acceptance is based on overall educational background, academic achievement, English proficiency, and the number of spots available. Students will be placed into the appropriate grade upon review of the student’s age and transcripts at the sole discretion of the Head of School. (If the student and his or her family are in Canada when the application is submitted, an interview will be scheduled with the Head of School as part of the admissions process. If the student and his or her family are not in Canada, we will hold a Skype meeting instead. After the interview, the student will have a full-day visit day in the appropriate class during which the student will be assessed.)

Receive notice of acceptance

If acceptance is granted, an acceptance letter and invoice will be sent to you, and payment will be due within two weeks of the acceptance date. Space will only be held for two weeks.

Pay tuition

Pay your tuition and fees (by cheque, Visa/MC, or wire transfer).

Receive formal acceptance

Once we receive tuition, you will receive a formal letter of acceptance and payment confirmation, which the embassy requires to process a visa.

Apply to the Canadian Embassy, Consulate, or High Commission for Study Permit

Approval may take 6-12 weeks to process. The event of a visa denial is the only instance in which the tuition and consolidated fees are fully refundable.


Once your visa is accepted, it will be time to celebrate and look forward to giving your child an incredible education experience on Canada's West Coast.

Urban Academy 2021-2022 Fee Breakdown

  • Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12: $21,825
Due Dates:

Full payment of tuition and consolidated activity fees (listed below) is due within two weeks of acceptance. These fees are non-refundable. The only case in which tuition is refundable is if the student visa has been denied. In such cases, the denial letter must be submitted to the school for proof of denial.

Payment Options:

Visa, MasterCard, personal or company cheques, or wire transfer. Late payments or NSF cheques will result in a $50 service charge per incident. Please note that a 2% administration fee will be applied for credit card payments.

Application Fee:

$250 per new student. Applications will not be accepted without this nonrefundable fee.

Re-Registration Fee:

$150 per student. Due upon receipt of contract for students returning in the second and subsequent years. This fee is non-refundable.

Consolidated Activity Fee:

Due annually, non-refundable, and includes the fee that supports facilities, text books and technology, field trips and special events. The Consolidated Activity Fee for JK- Grade 6 also includes school supplies. For students entering Grades 7-12, the Consolidated Activity Fee covers a portion of their school supplies. As courses vary for middle and high school students, a list of the remaining school supplies to be purchased and brought to school will be provided in advance of the start of the school year for students in Grades 7-12.

Fees Vary By Grade As Follows:
  • Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12: $1,500

Families currently registered at Urban Academy are given first priority for registration for the upcoming school year. Urban Academy offers a sibling discount program for primary or blended families with a shared parent. A reduction of 5% will be applied for the first sibling and 10% for the second.
