Our staff is trained in a learning system called SmartLearning. This system was developed by Susan Close and the New Westminster School District and is based on current brain research. This approach ensures that students are fully engaged in higher-level thinking (e.g., synthesizing, analyzing, and evaluating). This style of learning also helps students become accountable to each other and to their teachers for quality learning.
Schools are often organized around language and logic, an excellent structure for the left side of the brain, however it ignores more visual approaches that favor the right side of the brain. SmartLearning encourages a more balanced approach, of combining language and logic regularly with visual information so that students engage both sides of the brain. These skills have proven beneficial later in life when people are faced with challenges and can now draw on a broader approach to dealing with the obstacles before them.
The SmartLearning programs considers the whole individual, and as a result it offers hundreds of learning tools that help students in areas like reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, written expression, science, mathematics, history, and public speaking.
