The goal of the Urban Academy Primary Program is to initiate the young learners in their exciting path towards embodying what is the Urban Academys' Student Profile.

It is with this purpose in mind that the UA Primary offers a variety of nurturing and engaging learning experiences, geared towards developing and balancing the emotional, social, physical and intellectual dimensions of each student. These learning experiences are carefully planned, organized, delivered and assessed by highly committed and a tightly collaborative team of teachers.

Learning in the UA Primary Program has been shaped into concept-based units, consisting of big ideas or statements that are explored through the lenses of the different subject areas, widely satisfying the expectations of the BC Curriculum.  Using a concept-based framework as a foundation for teaching and learning, and implementing SmartLearning strategies and tools, the UA Primary Program allows students to develop awareness of their own learning, making effective connections among different ideas and gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them. Each grade level holds “end-of-unit” exhibitions that showcase and celebrate the students learning. Other academic celebrations include the Junior Science Fair and the Spelling Bee
